Scrapbook, circa 1860-1870.

Manuscript, in multiple hands, of a collection of press cuttings concerning Jesse's books and of material relating to his research into the alleged affair between King George III and Hannah Lightfoot, a Quaker. The manuscript begins with press reviews about Jesse's historical work, Memoirs of King Richard the Third, followed by excerpts from Notes & Queries and other publications on Hannah Lightfoot, as well as his own articles on her. This section is followed by a collection of letters from acquaintances and Jesse's own notes concerning his research on Lightfoot, including research into her genealogy; whether she had a child in the Barclay family; which house she might have lived in in London; and whether a portrait painted of her is by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The manuscript also includes, pasted in, numerous tickets on which are recorded entries in burial registers, having to do with his research into Lightfoot's genealogy.
